Canada-Chile work plan for implementing activities on trade and gender
This work plan reflects a 24-month period (January 2026 - December 2027) and will be updated as needed. The activities undertaken through this work plan will support the following principles:
- gender balance
- accountability
- transparency
- flexibility and pragmatism
- inclusion and openness to the participation of civil society and diverse groups
- results-orientation
Areas of cooperation
1. Develop and implement trade and gender cooperation activities
- Undertake cooperation activities that deliver concrete benefits for women-owned businesses to access and leverage the opportunities created by the CCFTA. These activities should ensure the inclusive participation of women
Objectives:
- Ensure women fully benefit from the opportunities created by the CCFTA
- Apply an intersectional approach that ensures women-owned businesses, including those owned by Indigenous Peoples and SMEs, can shape, lead and implement trade and gender cooperation activities
Possible Activities:
- Virtual roundtable for civil society organizations interested in collaboration on trade and gender, contingent on logistical considerations
- Export workshops to promote CCFTA benefits for export-ready SMEs
- Trade-focused activity for women-owned businesses in priority bilateral sectors (e.g. clean technology, mining and critical minerals, defense, infrastructure, forestry, digital technologies) to facilitate networking and exchange of information and experiences
- Trade-focused activity on the margins of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) – or other similar events – centered around women in mining
- Trade-focused activity on the margins of the Women Economic Forum
- Activity on Indigenous women in trade, with input and participation from Indigenous organizations and businesses, to promote their inclusion in the global economy
Deliverable/expected results:
- Increased trade collaboration and export opportunities for women-owned businesses, Indigenous Peoples, SMEs and civil society in the context of the CCFTA
2. Promote the trade and gender nexus
- Work together to enhance the visibility of trade and gender issues and to advance economic outcomes for women in multilateral forums (e.g. the WTO, OECD, OAS, APEC) and through initiatives such as the Global Trade and Gender Arrangement (GTAGA) and Inclusive Trade Action Group (ITAG)
Objectives:
- Coordinate efforts to advocate for inclusive economic growth for women globally
- Leverage existing plurilateral Instruments and mechanisms to advance the participation of women-owned and Indigenous-owned businesses and SMEs in international trade
Possible Activities:
- Coordinate efforts in multilateral forums to advance the inclusion of gender considerations in trade policy development
- Cooperation on activities in the context of ITAG and GTAGA that promote the participation of women, civil society, Indigenous Peoples, and SMEs in international trade
Deliverable/expected results:
- Increase visibility of gender-responsive trade policy in multilateral forums
3. Experience sharing
- Sharing experiences in designing, implementing, monitoring, and strengthening policies and programs to encourage women’s participation in international trade, with a particular focus on the collection and analysis of gender disaggregated data
Objectives:
- Benefit from the sharing of respective experiences
- Raise awareness of the trade and gender nexus throughout the CCFTA
Possible Activities:
- Exchange of information regarding gender-disaggregated data on trade and women in Canada and Chile
- Exchange of information on how each country designs and implements gender-responsive trade programs (including opportunities and challenges in monitoring and evaluation)
- Regular meetings of the Gender and Trade committee, as required, to discuss progress of the work plan
Deliverable/expected results:
- Bolster shared understandings of emerging insights of women’s participation in international trade, including through the analysis of gender disaggregated data
