Statement of the Lima Group on the take-over of the functional competencies of the Venezuelan National Assembly

The signatory countries express our strong condemnation of the decision of the National Constituent Assembly to usurp the legislative authority and powers of the National Assembly, which ratifies the rupture of the democratic and constitutional order in Venezuela.

Consistent with the Declaration adopted in Lima on August 8, 2017:

1. We reiterate our non-recognition of the National Constituent Assembly and the acts that emanate from it;

2. We ratify our full support to the National Assembly of Venezuela;

3. We reaffirm our decision to intensify consultations to implement the Inter-American Democratic Charter to Venezuela.
