Parliamentary Secretary Fortier concludes participation in General Assembly of Organization of American States

On June 27, the Honourable Mona Fortier, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, concluded her visit to Antigua and Barbuda, where she took part in the 55th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS).
While at the general assembly, Parliamentary Secretary Fortier met with leaders from across the Americas and delivered Canada’s national statement, which emphasized the urgent need for collective multilateral action to uphold democratic values, protect human rights and reinforce the rule of law.
The OAS General Assembly adopted a landmark resolution reaffirming strong hemispheric support for Haiti, highlighting the urgent need for support in the areas of democratic governance, security, humanitarian aid, human rights, and emphasizing the importance of strong coordination between OAS and UN efforts. The move signals renewed international momentum to address Haiti’s worsening crisis.
Parliamentary Secretary Fortier also reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to global health, gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in the Americas by announcing a $15-million investment (2025–2030) in the Pan American Health Organization-led project Strengthening Health Systems for Women and Adolescent Girls, aimed at improving sexual and reproductive health for women and girls, particularly migrants, in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Honduras and Peru.
