Leslie E. Norton, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations in Geneva and to the Conference on Disarmament
Biography
Leslie E. Norton was appointed Canada’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations in Geneva and to the Conference on Disarmament in August 2019. Prior to this, she was Assistant Deputy Minister of the Sub-Saharan Africa Branch from 2016 to 2019. Ms. Norton has also held several senior Canadian government roles, including:
- Director General of the Southern and Eastern Africa Bureau (2015-2016)
- Director General of the International Humanitarian Assistance Bureau (2009-2015)
- Director of the Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Response Group (2008-2009)
- Director of the International Humanitarian Assistance and Food Aid Unit (2006-2008)
Ms. Norton obtained a diploma in Civilization and Literature at the Aix-Marseille III University, Bachelor of Arts Honors degree in English and French Literature at the University of Western Ontario and a Master's degree in International Relations at Laval University.
