Canada’s response to the flooding in Pakistan

Pakistan has experienced heavy monsoon rains and flooding since the middle of June, causing the deaths of over 1,300 people and affecting the lives of 33 million people across the country.

More than 6 million people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. Hundreds of thousands of houses have been destroyed. Livelihoods, livestock and crops are also being heavily impacted.

How Canada is helping

Recognizing the generosity of Canadians and their desire to assist those affected by the flooding, Canada launched a matching fund on September 13, 2022.

This funding is in addition to the $5 million announced on August 29, 2022, which Canada has committed to help support the response to the flooding. This funding will help humanitarian partners provide life-saving services, including food assistance, emergency cash and vouchers, water and sanitation and health interventions.

How the matching fund works

Canada will match, dollar for dollar, donations made by individuals between August 1, and September 28, 2022, to the Humanitarian Coalition and its members for humanitarian assistance in Pakistan, up to a maximum of $3 million.

Global Affairs Canada will transfer the matching funds to the Humanitarian Coalition, which will in turn allocate the funds among its members based on criteria such as their capacity and presence in the affected region.

You can donate safely online at the Humanitarian Coalition’s Pakistan Floods Appeal. You have until September 28, 2022, to make a donation.
